It’s impossible not to be charmed by Pili’s Tacos before you even walk in the door.

The purple/pink exterior gives way to a modest interior with a focus on the authentic food and home style Mexican family atmosphere.

As the name implies, Pili’s is about the tacos. There are a number of other authentic dishes pinned to the wall, but the $1.25 tacos are simple and delicious.

From pastor to asada to cabeza to carnitas, your favorites are all available. Top off your tacos with their Mexican beverages like Jarritos and more. They have a bottle of guava juice that tastes like fresh squeezed. If you do want fresh squeezed, there is a wide variety of home made Agua Frescas the Pili’s makes to order.

Pili’s is very much like a taco truck in a storefront. Convenient because you always know where to find them.

  1. I used to live on Brockton the block south of Santa Monica. Pili’s wasn’t there when I lived there–I feel if they were, I’d never have eaten anywhere else!

My pick for cheap Mexican when I lived there was Taco Plus, on Bundy at Ohio (in one of the worst parking lots anywhere). The tacos were okay, but the tortas where great. Now, of course, there’s another Mexican place in the mini-mall where Monte Alban is. So much I’ve missed out on!

  2. I like Tacos Plus too, although I don’t think that they are that cheap. I like that the food at Tacos Plus isn’t real greasy.

I think the Monte Alban neighbor is Super Taco? That’s my friend from Mexico City’s favorite west side spot. I haven’t been there yet though.

  3. Pili’s was our first taco stop on that part of the Westside, but we go to Super Taco these days. Taco Por Favor and Tacomiendo are both closer for us so we go to those places more frequently.

  4. Taco Plus used to be cheap, but things do change, I suppose!

Went to El Super Taco today–great carnitas, so-so carne asada. Heard their tortas are very good.

  5. Went to Pili’s today–excellent al pastor! Like El Super Taco across the street, the carne asada was so-so. Maybe I’ll have to split a trip over there into two legs–to EST for carnitas, and then across the street to Pili’s for al pastor.
